Had a realization I probably could have thought through without experiencing today. I’m a snack junkie (with the figure to show for it). Love candy. Almost always have some available to my classes. So I was doing my normal munchie thing today, and during a break managed to get a hold of a Hershey’s dark chocolate (um!) with almonds. And I should know this from the peanut M&M debacle a while back, but you shouldn’t eat nuts before/during teaching. I spent the next hour trying to discreetly pick my teeth clean with my tongue, and wanting to spit the blasted nut residue out on the front row of my class. I’m pretty confident no one noticed my frustration, but it was very distracting to me. As a result, there’s a new rule in my training regimen.
Don’t eat nuts while speaking.
